Christmas lights in London - Regents street, London

The wintertime has arrived and is in full effect. The colder nights and shorter days though may seem unappealing, but this magical time of year brings a variety of things to do and places to visit. Whatever your tastes are, there is something for everyone to get involved with during this time.

These months are the ideal time to get the family together and enjoying some of the huge number of events going on all over the country. This enchanting time of the year, is your time to see the city skies sparkle with lights, indulge in some unique delicacies, visit places you’ll never forget and experience things you'll look forward to experiencing again next year.

Who says all winter events have to be costly? At Lavender Hill, we have listed some winter goings-on this year we think you will love. So, grab your gloves, hats and scarves (we would suggest our beautiful cashmere gloves, hats & scarves) and find out where you’ll be heading this winter.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

Even if you don’t live in our country’s capital, we would still recommend visiting the Hyde park winter wonderland event, especially if you live somewhere fairly close to London. This amazing event has become somewhat of a tradition of the last few years and will be returning for its 12th year this winter. Often called the UK’s number one Christmas destination, we would need to whole separate blog to go through all the various activities and things to do during your visit. Some of the events happening are:

  • The Magical Ice Kingdom – featuring a Christmas Carol theme. Go on a journey through the past, present and future Christmas.
  • Watch world-class skaters put on an amazing performance at the Paddington on Ice event.
  • Zippos Christmas Circus. A real treat for the whole family, the Zippos circus incredible performances from clowns, acrobats, and magicians.

There is a whole lot going on, see here for the full details. Also, be sure to plan and book ahead to avoid any disappointments.

Canary Wharf Winter Lights Festival

A truly breath-taking sight to behold, viewing the Canary Wharf winter lights are something you must tick off your list this year. This year features a new set of dazzling lighting, artwork and interactive experiences. The lighting and artwork on display are truly something that images cannot do justice. What’s more, you do not require a ticket or need to pay to take part. So, if you’re heading to London, or live close to it, we recommend setting aside an evening to visit Canary Wharf and be prepared to be amazed. See the full details here.

London’s New Year’s Parade

To top off the Christmas holidays and welcome in the New Year, we recommend observing London’s New Year’s Day parade. With a tradition dating back to 1987, this parade begins at Piccadilly and finishes off at Westminster. There are various performances going on during it and is something the kids will love. Be sure to get there early though to avoid disappointment. See the full details here.

For those based in, or around, the north-west of England, the Liverpool winter arts market is your opportunity to attend one of the biggest arts and crafts fairs in the UK. You will see thousands of handmade artwork and crafts as well as jewellery, clothing and more. It’s a great chance to support local artists and get your hands on some unique items. You can read more about this event here.

The Winter Wonderland at Dudley Zoological Gardens

The winter wonderland event at Dudley Zoo is genuinely one the kids and adults will both love. This event includes a chance to visit Santa in his grotto set and receive a special gift. As well as a chance to see all your favourite animals and see what they get up to in the winter months, including a chance to greet Santa’s reindeers. It’s a great way to get the kids exploring and learning about all the different animals. The full details can be found here.
