Making the Most of Spring at Home

Let spring in

Whether you live in a house or a flat, opening up your home to let spring in can leave you feeling invigorated when cooped up inside. This is a great bonus of spending spring at home - an open window or door with fresh air flowing in can really lift your mood. Or, if you’re lucky enough to have a garden, making sure you spend some time in it can boost your mood, too.

Spring clean

Refreshing your home with a thorough clean can help breathe new life into it. So get those cleaning gloves out, put on some uplifting music and work on cleaning all the spots that you didn’t get to in the winter. Spring at home should be even more of a reason to give your home some love. We love these eco friendly, all natural cleaners by KINN.

Get cooking

We may be spending more time at home that we’re used to, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun in the kitchen. Why not experiment with some spring recipes? We love this selection by Jamie Oliver - all super simple recipes that use real ingredients and are great to share with your loved ones or whoever you’re spending spring at home with.

Grow your own vegetables

Not all of us are lucky enough to have a garden at home, but did you know you can still grow some veg and plenty of herbs inside, on a balcony or on your roof, so long as your chosen spot has access to sunlight? Check out these suggestions by Balcony Garden Web.

Self care

We touched on this in our self care tips when at home post, but we can’t champion self care enough when spending spring at home. Of course, having little ones at home with you can make it more difficult to prioritise time for self care, but finding a self care activity you can all do together like a family meditation or a craft challenge can be a great way to build morale and give our busy minds a rest from everything going on in the world.

Experiment with homemade items

As the natural world is blossoming at this time of year, it’s a great time to use the natural resources at our fingertips. If you’re lucky enough to have a garden or a park near you that boasts fragrant plants like lavender, thyme or rosemary, taking these and creating homemade items can be a rewarding thing to do when spending spring at home. We may be biased, but we love this suggestion for easy homemade lavender candles - lavender is a soothing, relaxing scent that can bring a sense of calm to your home.

Gratitude journal

While spring is an exciting time of increased daylight hours, beautiful flowers blooming and new life, it is also an excellent time to note down what we are grateful for, especially during these difficult times. We recommend making a gratitude journal while spending spring at home - all you need is a notebook and pen, then each morning detail one or a few things you’re grateful for each day. This can help you connect with yourself, your surroundings and your experience in a positive way.

Get listening

Now’s the time to lift ourselves up, whether through reading, watching or listening. We love the Deliciously Ella podcasts, particularly her recent podcast on coping with the current uncertainty which looks at finding joy and keeping our sense of self when so much seems out of our control. A must for spring at home.

Embrace the slower pace

We don’t know about you, but we haven’t had the chance to slow down this much in a long time. While having no other option but to spend spring at home, we’re going to take solace in the slower pace that this brings.

There may still be plenty to be done in terms of work and family life, but without the daily commute or endless social commitments, there’s a noticeably slower lifestyle emerging and we’re really starting to embrace it. Spring at home may not happen again for a long time - so let’s take it for what it is.
